As a father seeking to strengthen the bond with my son, I embarked on a fishing trip, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we cast our lines into the tranquil waters, we were immersed in a world of tranquility and adventure. The picturesque setting provided the backdrop for countless memorable moments. Whether it was the joyous laughter shared over tangled lines or the quiet contemplation as we watched the sunset paint the sky, every instant was etched into our memories forever. The expertise of our guide Matt Risko was invaluable, not only in navigating the waters but also in imparting wisdom about the art of fishing. With patience and encouragement, he fostered a sense of camaraderie between us, turning moments of frustration into opportunities for growth and connection. Moreover, the trip allowed us to disconnect from the distractions of everyday life and reconnect with each other on a deeper level. Away from screens and schedules, we found solace in the simplicity of casting lines and waiting in anticipation for the next catch. As the day drew to a close, we returned with more than just a cooler filled with fish; we returned with a renewed sense of closeness and understanding. Our father-son fishing trip was not just an adventure—it was a testament to the enduring power of shared experiences to strengthen familial bonds. In conclusion, I highly recommend a father-son fishing trip to anyone seeking to create lasting memories and deepen their relationship. It’s not just about the fish you catch but the moments you share along the way.

Can't say enough good things about Matt - he goes above and beyond what other resort owners (I have stayed at other resorts on Whitefish) have done. Cabins are not fancy but they are TONS better than they were under prior ownership. And the fish cleaning shack NOW HAS A/C!!!!

This is my wife’s account. My sons and I have stayed at Hidden River even before Matt took it over. Matt has made some incredible upgrades to the camp and takes great pride in what he has done and rightfully so. Cabins are rustic, but exactly what you would expect and want for a fishing camp. The lakes are huge and beautiful but there is a lot of areas where it is hard to catch fish, yet Matt knows the spots at each time of the year to put you on fish whether it’s smallmouth or walleye. Fortunately after so many years fishing on the lake, we know where to go. We have caught many walleye in the 25 to 29 inch range over the years. We have never gone home without our limit. Also, the smallmouth bass fishing is great and a fun mid afternoon activity. We do not go after northern pike but we have caught some very big ones fishing for walleye. Matt can also turn you onto lake trout in the big lake. This fishing trip, taken each year with my sons, son-in-law and friends, is the highlight of my year and Matt has been a big part of that happening. Gary Rogers

Great fun at this lodge! Matt was an amazing host. Guided us toward the hot spots for fishing and grouse hunting. Cabin overlooking the lake was immaculate and fully equipped! Had a walleye dinner that Matt quickly filleted for us as we rolled in. Highly recommend this lodge for a fun get away and beautiful scenery! We went in the fall and the colours were spectacular!

This was our second year at Hidden River. The first year just myself and my husband went. It was so amazing that when we returned this summer we needed my husbands parents to share the experience. The fishing is incredible, the hospitality also incredible. We will be back yearly as long as Matt is the owner. Carol is an amazing cook. You will not be disappointed with the meals and the sizes of the portions. Her hospitality makes you feel right at home. There were 2 guys there Devon and Leo to help with just about anything you needed. Our stay was seamless and we had absolutely no inconveniences at all. Everyone was so kind and friendly. Matt is VERY knowledgeable about the lake and if you listen to his advice and fish where he tells you to you hit all of the time. Both years we came back with the max number of fish for walleye and small mouth bass ( so did my in-laws the second year ) Just left from our stay today and I’m already dreaming of next year.

Hidden river lodge is a gem in the woods for the fishing enthusiast. Matt and his team are personable and make sure your fishing trip is enjoyable. The food is great and filling after a day on the water. The surrounding lake and forest are beautiful with wildlife visible to the discerning eye. The fishing n the lake was great and i highly recommend getting away from the noise of the world and enjoying the solitude of this lodge. You will not be disappointed.
